Ralph becomes discouraged because he thinks they will never make it off the island. Jack makes him feel better my reassuring him that everything is going to be okay. Later they decide to hunt for the pig while they are hunting for the beast. Ralph throws his spear at the boar, but only hits him barely. Jack tries to grab the pig but only gets hurt. He blames Ralph for this. The boys are still very excited about the chase and continue on. They begin to play a game with Roger pretending he is the boar. Forgetting theirselves, they begin to really hurt Roger and he crawls away. After realizing this Ralph presses the fact that it was just a game on them. Simon volunteers to go down the mountain and tell Piggy that they will not return until very late that night. Ralph suggest they can wait until morning to go up the mountain until Jack challenges his to go anyway. Jack, Ralph, and Roger all climb the mountain together. All three boys get a look at the monster and hurry down the mountain to tell the rest of the boys.
